96.Jonathan Richman - I Can Hear Her Fighting With Herself (I`m So Confused,1998)
Before the toilet humor kicked in, "There's Something About Mary" opened with a purely romantic image: Jonathan Richman, sittin' in a tree, b-u-s-k-i-n-g. More than 20 years after he defined the collision of schoolboy angst and pure guitar pop, the former Modern Lover has given up the angst for good, making album after album of off-handedly sweet pop, and "I'm So Confused" is the culmination of this lovelorn pop singer's retreat into middle age. This album, produced by Ric Ocasek, shows Richman has come a long way from his post-teen years...and he's still lonely. Most compellingly, the ghosts of hospitals past memorably haunt "I Can Hear Her Fighting With Herself."Real Explosion of emotions...
I Can Hear Her Fighting With Herself
I can hear her fighting with herself
I can hear the words she doesn't tell
Well right, left, right
I can almost hear the fight
Well ring, ring, ring
I can almost hear her thinking
I can almost hear her fighting
I can almost hear her fighting with herself
It's like she wants to scream
But something is paralyzing
It's like she'd want to talk
But then she turns to rock
I can almost hear the words she doesn't say
She starts to talk but then she turns away
Well boom, boom, boom
There's tension in the room
Well right, left, right
I can almost hear the fight
Can almost hear her thinking
Can almost hear her fighting with herself
It's like she wants to scream
But something is paralyzing
It's like she wants to stay
But then she turns away
On one shoulder is the angel
On the other is the devil
Its like they're both screaming at her
At some high volume level
It's like she wants to scream
But something is paralyzing
It's like she wants to stay
But she turns away
And I can hear her fighting
I can almost hear her fighting with herself
